We visited a Comics Exhibition in Paris!

This weekend we visited Paris and went to the Georges Pompidou centre, which is Paris’ Tate modern. We saw a lot of modern art and were a bit puzzled by some of it.

But the highlight was the comics exhibition called “Comics, 1964-2024” in the 6th floor.

It was a large collection and my favorite activity was to look closely and see the details of the white corrector pen traces, the side notes from the authors, and all the little things that showed how their work started from black and white drawings with lots of small imperfections

Here are some of my (Izzy) highlights, from mangas to niche French sci-fi, to super-heroes i never heard of.

There were many covers from original old junior manga magazine like the icon for this article, and this one:

really appreciated the clear lines, colors and expressions.

There were original drawing plates of favorite characters like Doraemon

I liked a French sci-fi comics author I did not know, called Philippe Druillet from Toulouse, whose black and white drawings look very futuristic and video game like drawings (and the story sounds intriguing)

And of course, original drawings of this guy:

This is just a small excerpt of an exhaustive collection of drawings that include also Enki Bilal, Marjane Satrapi, original Uderzo and Goscinny Asterix plates. To conclude, the exhibition poster image: Starwatcher by Moebius

If this post inspired you, please research the various authors and comics, and if you happen by Paris, the exhibition is on until 4 November 2024, see link below
